Bohrium is a synthetic, highly radioactive transactinide, first synthesized in 1981. It does not occur naturally and is produced in particle accelerators by bombarding bismuth-209 with chromium-54 ions. Its isotopes are used exclusively for scientific research, particularly in studying the chemical properties of superheavy elements.
