Darmstadtium is a synthetic, highly radioactive transactinide, first synthesized in 1994. It does not occur naturally and is produced in particle accelerators by bombarding lead-208 with nickel-62 or nickel-64 ions. Its isotopes are used exclusively for scientific research, particularly to study superheavy element chemistry and nuclear properties.
