Dubnium is a synthetic, highly radioactive transactinide, first reported in the late 1960s and early 1970s. It does not occur naturally and is produced in particle accelerators by bombarding calcium-48 ions onto americium, curium, or californium targets. Its isotopes are used exclusively for scientific research, particularly in studying the chemistry of superheavy elements.
