Oganesson is a synthetic, highly radioactive noble gas, first synthesized in 2002. It does not occur naturally and is produced in particle accelerators by bombarding californium-249 with calcium-48 ions. Its isotopes are used exclusively for scientific research, mainly to study superheavy element chemistry and nuclear properties.
