Chemical Element:

Information: Rutherfordium

Known Methods of Extraction

Rutherfordium is a synthetic, highly radioactive transactinide, first reported in the late 1960s. It does not occur naturally and is produced in particle accelerators by bombarding calcium-48 ions onto plutonium, californium, or other heavy actinide targets. Its isotopes are used exclusively for scientific research, particularly in studying the chemical properties of superheavy elements.
