Tennessine is a synthetic, highly radioactive transactinide, first synthesized in 2010. It does not occur naturally and is produced in particle accelerators by bombarding berkelium-249 with calcium-48 ions. Its isotopes are used exclusively for scientific research, mainly to study superheavy element chemistry and nuclear properties.
